The House Journey of TANAH LUNA

Becoming a DJ is actually something I wanted to do many years ago.

But at the time, I talked myself out of it.

I was already successfully building a career as a singer and pianist under my own name, Debora Hulskamp. Music was already my life, and I was following a path that was working for me. So instead of taking the risk of starting something completely new, I decided to stay on the path I was already walking.

But the idea of becoming a DJ never really disappeared.

Years later, I found myself drawn to House music again. Especially Afro House, with its deep grooves, hypnotic rhythms and incredible sense of movement. Something about it immediately felt familiar — but at the same time completely new.

I started experimenting at home, just as I had once dreamed of doing. At first it was simply about discovering what I liked: how tracks could flow into each other, how to build energy, and how a DJ can take people on a musical journey without saying a single word.

And I loved it.

I spent hours mixing at home and eventually decided to share my first mixtape on SoundCloud. Pressing that upload button felt surprisingly exciting. After all those years of being a singer and pianist, I was suddenly presenting myself in a completely different way: as DJ TANAH LUNA.

And then something happened.

I realised that this wasn't just about becoming a DJ. It was about finally giving myself permission to explore something I had wanted to do years ago.

The more I played, the more I began to discover my own direction. Afro House became the foundation, but I wanted to bring something personal into it — my love for Indonesia, my Moluccan roots, the warmth and energy I associate with Bali, organic percussion, hypnotic rhythms and melodies that create a sense of escape.

That is where TANAH LUNA started to come alive.

My background as a singer, songwriter and musician naturally became part of the journey too. I have always believed that music should tell a story and create an emotion. As a singer, I did that with my voice. As a DJ, I discovered I could do it through rhythm, atmosphere and the way I build a set.

And now I am taking the next step: creating my own TANAH LUNA music.

What started with a dream I put aside many years ago has become a completely new chapter in my musical life.

Sometimes the things you think you have left behind are simply waiting for the right moment.

For me, that moment is now.
